Tips & Tricks Video: Lump Sum for Subcontractors

NO DIVISION? NO PROBLEM

Distribute across multiple items

Here is a problem you may have encountered. You’ve given a subcontractor multiple items to price up and they provide you with a single price to cover multiple schedule items in your estimate. Somehow, you have to divide the subcontractor’s price across all of the requested items.

With subcontractors, Expert Estimation now gives you the ability to distribute and proportion a lump sum value with a simple, useful workflow.

To use this feature, in the HOME ribbon menu, select SUBCONTRACTOR COMPARISONS. Choose a Subcontractor Comparison, then press VIEW DETAILS. Here you have a list of all the subcontractors and the details of their quotes.

To distribute a lump sum value, select a subcontractor, and in the ribbon menu press SUBCONTRACTOR DETAILS.

The ribbon menu gives you a range of actions to choose from.

First, select a range of items, and then press DISTRIBUTE LUMP SUM VALUE.

The default lump sum distribution method is to REPLACE ANY EXISTING QUOTED TOTAL. You can change the distribution method here and ADD DISTRIBUTED VALUE TO the EXISTING QUOTED TOTAL.

You can proportion that amount EVENLY across the selected items. Then press DISTRIBUTE or hit the enter key.

You can proportion that amount BASED ON ITEM QUANTITIES.

You can split the lump sum BASED ON the QUOTED TOTAL OF ANOTHER SUBCONTRACTOR.

You can also distribute lump sum value BASED ON THE SUBCONTRACT TOTAL OF ANOTHER SUBCONTRACTOR.

The second way to distribute the lump sum value is to ADD the DISTRIBUTED VALUE TO the EXISTING QUOTED TOTAL.

This is useful if you need to add an additional amount. The application will add the lump sum value proportionally to the existing values that are already there, rather than replacing them.

And that is an introduction to distributing lump sum values for subcontractors.
